Acoustical ceiling tiles are manufactured from mineral wool, cellulose fibers, corn or potato starch, clay, fiberglass and expanded perlite plus other additives.
Imerys Raw Graded Perlites, when expanded, are widely used in this application. Their proportion in the formulation can vary enormously, from 10 to 75 wt%, depending on the required properties of the finished product. Their function is to increase the porosity of the tile to enhance their acoustical properties as well as to provide bulk volume in order to reduce tile weight. Additionally, Imerys construction perlites bring different textures to the visible surface of the tile or panel and thus provide improved aesthetics, as well as flexibility when used in re-modeling or for the changing of layouts.
Imerys offers a palette of various qualities of Raw Graded Perlite for this application complying with different needs of the final product for the specific properties required by our customers.
